August was an exciting month for Southern Illinois Chess!  We helped co-host the Blindfold King GM Timur Gareyev at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois on August 21st shortly after the Total Eclipse!  GM Timur played 10 boards simultaneously blindfolded while riding an exercise bike.  Grandmaster Timur Gareyev finished with a score of 8 wins 2 draws and 0 losses.  Congratulations to both Keyan Rahimi and Corbin Dallas for getting draws against GM Timur!

Southern Illinois Chess Club would like to say a special thank you to Potentia Analytics and the Department of Computer Science, without their sponsership, this event wouldn’t have been possible!








Looking forward into September, Corbin Dallas will be hosting 10 players unrated casual tournament at his house.  Please RSVP, if you’re interested in attending!

The Southern Illinois Chess Club will also now start hosting a club ladder.  Players will to play G/25 at Barnes and Nobles and report their win/loss/draw records to Michael Barkdoll will have their results recorded on the website for the official club ladder!
